First Principal

A Golden Legacy

Reflections on Korovuto College’s 50-year Journey

Dear Korovuto College Family

As I prepare to join the Grand Korovuto College Reunion and Golden Jubilee Celebrations in August 2025, I am filled with nostalgia and gratitude. It’s hard to believe it’s 50 years since I first set foot on college grounds as its first Principal from 1976 to 1980. Those five years were truly formative for our institution, and I am thrilled to see the growth and progress we have made over the years.

Fresh from graduating from The University of South Pacific Fiji in December 1975, I embarked on this journey with my beloved wife, Mrs Rai Mati Kumar. We were met with enthusiasm and dedication by the Management Committee, led by Hon. Mr Harish Sharma, Late Mr Sharda Nand, Late Mr Shiu Dutt, and other members. Their passion was infectious, and we decided to take on the challenge of starting Secondary School.

Those early years were not without challenges. As a young Principal, I sought guidance from my mentor, Late Mr. J S Kanwal, former Principal of Khalsa College Ba where I had my secondary school education. His wisdom and support were invaluable in shaping my leadership.

As we celebrate our Golden Jubilee, I want to extend my warmest congratulations to the entire Korovuto College Community – students, teachers, staff and alumni. This milestone is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and resilience of everyone.

I fondly remember the passion, creativity, and potential of our students, and I am delighted to know that the seeds sown during my tenure have borne fruit. I am confident that the next chapter of Korovuto College’s journey will be just as bright and promising. Today Korovuto College has grown into a thriving institution as one of the best in Fiji. The Golden Jubilee Celebrations will help to reconnect with old friends, colleagues and students.
